Ticket Refunds

Tempest TheatreTicketing and Refund PolicyPurpose
Tempest Theatre & Film Society (“Tempest”) is a small, professionally led arts organization committed to excellence, authenticity, and access. Our ticketing and refund policy is designed to balance fairness to patrons with the operational realities of a small venue, where seating is limited, most performances sell out, and late or absent patrons directly affect the experience of others.

This policy applies to all public performances, workshops, and special events presented by Tempest Theatre, and may be updated from time to time.

General Policy
All ticket sales are final.

Tempest Theatre does not offer refunds, exchanges, or credits except in clearly defined extenuating circumstances (see below).

When a ticket is purchased, it reserves a seat and time, excluding others from that opportunity. As a small venue, every seat matters, and unclaimed or refunded tickets directly impact our ability to sustain programming and support artists.

Latecomers and Missed Performances
Tempest Theatre operates in an intimate black box space with limited audience access once a performance begins. Late arrivals are not admitted after the published start time, as late entry is highly disruptive to both performers and guests.

If you arrive late and miss the performance, no refund or credit will be issued. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to ensure seating and comfort before curtain time.

In rare cases (technical delay, major traffic disruption, etc.), Tempest may choose to delay the start time by up to 5 minutes at the discretion of front-of-house staff. Beyond that, the performance will begin as scheduled.

Extenuating Circumstances
Refunds or exchanges may be considered only in exceptional situations, such as:
  • Public safety hazards (e.g., wildfire, rockslide, or highway closure preventing safe travel);
  • Unexpected accessibility issues outside of the reasonable control of the guest;
  • Official public health orders requiring cancellation or capacity restrictions;
  • Event cancellation or rescheduling by Tempest Theatre

In such cases, patrons will be notified by email as soon as possible and offered the choice of:
  • A full refund, or
  • A ticket transfer to the rescheduled event (if applicable)

No refunds will be issued for illness, travel delays, or scheduling conflicts except where provincial or regional emergencies make attendance impossible.

Transfers and Re-Sales
If you cannot attend, you may transfer your ticket to another person at no additional charge. Please ensure they have a copy of the confirmation email or digital ticket for entry.

Tempest does not facilitate third-party re-sales and accepts no responsibility for tickets purchased through unauthorized resellers.

Cancelled or Postponed Events
If Tempest cancels or reschedules a performance, all ticket holders will be contacted directly.
In these cases, Tempest will:
  1. Offer full refunds to all affected ticket holders, and
  2. Clearly communicate new dates or options for rebooking.

Refunds for cancelled or rescheduled events will be processed automatically to the original payment method unless otherwise arranged.

Accessibility and Equity Considerations
Tempest is committed to access and community inclusion. Patrons facing financial hardship are encouraged to use our “Pay What You Can” or tiered pricing options where available. These flexible structures help ensure that no one is excluded for financial reasons while keeping our theatre sustainable.
If accessibility issues prevent a patron from attending after purchase (e.g., a sudden mobility limitation or medical emergency), Tempest may, at its discretion, offer a credit or alternative accommodation consistent with this policy as applicable to extenuating circumstances.

Force Majeure
Tempest Theatre is not liable for performance cancellations or delays caused by events beyond its control, including but not limited to natural disasters, power outages, public emergencies, or government orders. In such cases, refunds or credits will be offered where possible, consistent with the principles of fairness and sustainability.

Customer Responsibility
By purchasing a ticket, patrons acknowledge that:
            •          They are responsible for arriving on time and prepared to attend, and
            •          They understand that late entry is not permitted once a performance has begun.

This policy was amended and published on April 12, 2024 and will be reviewed periodically by Tempest to ensure ongoing alignment with our values of authenticity, excellence, and access.
