“Now I will believe that there are unicorns...” WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, THE TEMPEST
Tempest is a black box theatre that emphasizes original content and a playful and provocative approach to classical and contemporary texts. It is operated by the Tempest Theatre & Film Society, a non-profit organization registered in British Columbia. Tempest was founded in the spring of 2018 by Kate Twa, Ronan Reinart, and Andrea Agur. Managing Director Jennifer Vincent joined the team in 2019.
Tempest reflects an appreciation of the South Okanagan as both an inspirational source and a unique destination. Our aim is to encourage and develop local, national, and international artistic outlets, focusing on theatrical and motion picture media.
Tempest is an inclusive community environment with a vision that aims towards artistic excellence that expands boundaries and encourages artists and audiences alike to go deeper into the realms of understanding and acceptance as we all explore the human experience,
We explore and present material that is, at times, challenging, funny, complex, dark, and joyful, always guided by the fundamental premise that truth is beauty.
Throughout the year, we offer several classes, special events, and performances, all consistent with Tempest's stated purposes. The society's purposes are set out in our Constitution, which you can read here.
